Storm clouds gather in the distance, beyond the immediate mountain ridge. Here in Dusy Basin, the atmosphere remains calm, tranquil; a fish darts out and snatches an insect from the air, leaving a set of ripples behind.
Dusy Basin, a charming valley full of lakes, pines, and granite, is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains east of the John Muir Trail and Pacific Crest Trail, but west of the main Sierra crest. I arrived via none of the established trails; I clamberd down the ridge shown in this image as part of my trek along the Sierra High Route. Thunderstorms had hampered my progress the previous two days and I expected this day to be the same, especially since there were so many storm clouds gathering. While it did drizzle just a tiny bit, I stayed pretty dry and was happy to visit these gorgeous lakes under blue skies.
