Fog, atmospheric haze, smog… whatever it is, the foothills of Mount San Jacinto fade into the distance; layers of undulating ridges, some more obscured than others. Views like these are plentiful in the southern California mountains. In contrast to the lush, alpine paradise found further north in the Sierra Nevada, these mountains neighbor the heavily populated Los Angeles valley. Despite the impact of civilization on the environment, the ability to quickly escape from the city into the wilderness is one of my favorite things about this area.
